DISCOVERERS

Age 0 - 2
This is our warm, nurturing environment where your baby's learning and development are our top priorities. Our holistic approach ensures that your little one’s journey is both engaging and personalised to meet their unique needs. In the Discoverers Room, we focus on the prime areas of early development—Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Growth, and Physical Development. These are thoughtfully woven into each day to support your baby’s overall growth.

We believe that learning should be as fun and individual as your baby is. By incorporating your insights and your child's interests, we create an environment that is not only inviting but also stimulating. Through playful, messy, and hands-on activities, we foster a love for learning and help set the stage for their future development.

EXPLORERS

Age 2-3
At Explorers, we inspire our children to believe in themselves and their limitless potential. For ages 2-3, we create a supportive and dynamic environment where each child is encouraged to reach for their dreams and achieve their goals.

Our approach is centered around learning through play, tailored to meet each child's unique needs. We celebrate curiosity and encourage our little ones to use all their senses to explore and understand the world around them. While we focus on the prime areas of development, we also delve into specific areas of learning as appropriate to enrich their experience. In Explorers, every day is an adventure, and every discovery is a step towards a brighter future.

ADVENTURERS

Age 3-4
For ages 3-4, our Adventurers Room offers a safe, cozy, and homely environment where your child’s learning and development are our top priorities. We foster independence by celebrating each child’s achievements and providing a playful, engaging atmosphere.

Our dedicated team creates diverse activities both indoors and outdoors, ensuring each day is a new adventure. We promote a language-rich environment with songs, stories, and role play, and encourage positive attitudes and cultural understanding. We celebrate every achievement on our 'wow board' and tapestry, helping children build self-esteem and share their experiences with their families. We’re excited to welcome your child to a fun, loving, and inspiring home away from home.

PRESCHOOL

Age 3-4
For ages 3-4, our Preschool Room offers a nurturing space where children can build on their prime skills and delve deeper into all areas of the EYFS framework.

In Preschool, we celebrate creativity and role-play, allowing children to explore various roles and community occupations. Our home corner and themed activities, such as celebrating birthdays and cultural events, help children develop a sense of belonging and understand diversity. We support their self-expression through dress-up, music, and mark-making, helping them discover their preferred ways of creativity. Our goal is to provide a fun, supportive environment where each child can thrive, explore their interests, and develop their unique talents.

CURRICULUM

Here at Little Cubs we implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (“EYFS”) framework which is specified by the UK government and is recognised by OFSTED as an essential document to learning in the Early Years. We really care and prioritise the childs happiness and value their desire to play, explore and discover. Our staff team are advocates for celebrating achievement whilst encouraging children to be kind, considerate and empathetic towards others –instilling our British values.

“Children are building on their own independence as they independently dress for outside play, with older and more able children supporting their younger children” –Ofsted 2023

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We aim to develop the whole child, encouraging them to reach their full potential and beyond, becoming independent thinkers, problem solvers and communicators.

We will achieve this by creating a learning environment which:

Provides new and exciting experiences with language rich vocabulary from enthusiastic staff
Undergoes regular adaptation to keep children interested and enthused, changing our areas in our nursery rooms to allow children to reinact real life scenarios such as hospital, hairdressers, airplane etc.
Enhances listening, understanding and speaking skills emphasising the importance of story and group time.
Expand vocabulary and early literacy skills through stories, rhymes and songs
Nurtures, cares and supports every child within the setting
Encourages children to be independent with the capability to attend to their own self care needs and share their thoughts with confidence
Enables children to feel safe and secure through positive relationships between staff and children
Encourages creativity through a variety of mediums such as role play, dancing, singing and craft
Promotes positive role models, rewarding and highlighting children for positive behaviour and celebrating achievements regularly, giving the children a sense of self worth.
Follows a daily routine which provides children with the tools to confidently understand the concept of time with independence, regularly reminding children what we are doing, what’s next and allow the children to be involved in transitions within the day such as setting the table.

We will achieve this by developing the whole child through:

Annual and termly report documentation shared with families including statutorychecks recognising areas for support
Listening to the childs voice and implementing their input into their learning
Providing opportunity for sharing, cooperation and empathy towards others
Creating personal observations to record and celebrate children’s achievements and ideas
Supportive personal development – offering play opportunities to support individual developmental needs in the appropriate EYFS areas

In the moment planning to support personal interests and experiences
Involvement in an extensive variety of learning opportunities both indoors and
outdoors
Working closely with families for a personalised approach to learning
Working closely with outside agencies where appropriate supporting the needs of the
child

“Staff maximise the facilities that are in the building” – Ofsted 2023

“Staff plan a range of adult and child-led activities throughout the day that are linked to childrens individual needs and interests” – Ofsted 2023

“Parents state that they feel well informed about their childrens learning. They comment that
‘the care and love children receive provides children with the skills to make excellent progress’” – Ofsted 2023

Our Pedagogy

We believe children learn best in a secure environment where they feel comfortable to express themselves. Our staff create bonds with the children the moment they enter the setting – learning all about their likes, dislikes and taking time to understand their home life. This then moulds a positive relationship in order for the children to use familiar adults as a secure base to explore and learn further within the setting. We believe providing a variety of opportunities and experiences to all children promotes them to flourish in the environment and experience being exposed to language in a rich manner to widen vocabulary.

Our skilled staff adapt their teaching approach in an age/ability appropriate manner in order to be inclusive to all children. This means we will facilitate children in any way possible to ensure they are succeeding in their learning. Staff will consider and implement methods to challenge children in order to extend their learning in a continuous way.

“Overall, communication and language are supported well throughout the Nursery. From the
youngest age, staff provide children with opportunities to practice their voice and vocal skills”
